Did you know that…?

1. Approximately 2 million children in Uganda have been orphaned by civil war and the AIDS epidemic.
2. 15 million children have lost one or both parents to AIDS-more than 12 million are in sub-Saharan Africa.
3. Half the population of Uganda is under the age of 15. (*UNAIDS stats)
4. 8,000 people die everyday because of AIDS-related illnesses-more than 6,000 of those live in Africa.
5. AIDS is now the biggest single cause of death among children under the age of 5.

Dear Friends,

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. It is important to me. When I see the suffering people of Africa, especially the children, something in me yearns to help them.

It’s recently become a dream of mine to help the children of Africa in some significant and tangible way, and now I can; in fact, WE can.                         

Oasis Christian Center, my church, has partnered with the Watoto Ministries to fight the devastating impact of AIDS and poverty on the people of Uganda. The goal of Watoto is to raise Uganda’s future leaders. Watoto is healing Uganda where it hurts.

 Christmas was never a holiday that I cared too much about. As a child, I never received very much for Christmas, so I have grown to minimize the celebration of the holiday and try to hurry through the season. That is, until I heard about the Christmas my church has planned for the children of Watoto. This Christmas, Oasis will bring a Christmas celebration complete with food and presents to over 2,000 orphaned children and we’ll be sending a team of volunteers there in December to build a much needed classroom for the children.

I want to be one of those volunteers lending a helping hand. I want to be there to give these amazing children the Christmas I never had. BUT I have to raise $3,500 by October in order to do it.
